An Open Letter to Prospective
Visitors
Dear
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you for your interest in our home fellowships.
Our churches are
relationship-based.
We intentionally pattern our meetings after the way that
the early church met during the time of the apostles.
This way of meeting is very conducive to fellowship and
mutual participation, and is in accord with the doctrine
of the priesthood of the believer. Here are some
characteristics of our meetings.
We dress casually.
Please come dressed comfortably, but modestly. Blue
jeans or khakis are just fine. You will feel out of
place wearing a coat and tie!
We gather on the Lord’s
Day.
Following the pattern of the New Testament, we meet
together together regularly on the first day of each
week, although we have been know to meet a few Saturdays
on occasion. Sunday is known in Scripture as the Lord’s
Day, the day Jesus conquered death and rose from the
grave. We do not, however, see this as any type of
Sabbath day. Every day is a holy day under the New
Covenant (Heb 4, Col 2:16 - 17, Gal 4:8 -11).
We celebrate the Lord's
Supper as a fellowship meal.
Generally our meetings begin with a rehearsal of the
Wedding Feast of the Lamb. The early church celebrated
the Lord's Supper, not just with bread and wine, but
also as a fellowship meal (the Agape Feast), just as
Jesus celebrated it in the context of the Passover meal
with his disciples. Each week when we meet, each family
brings a dish, and we enjoy wonderful fellowship at this
meal. The Communion portion is usually done at the
beginning, but sometimes during the middle or at the
end.
We consider the fellowship that takes place around the
Lord's Supper to be a vitally important part of our
meeting. We believe that the Lord's Supper typifies
past, present, and future aspects of the Christian
experience. Past, because He died and suffered
for our sins; present, because we enjoy communion and
fellowship with Him and with one another; and future,
because we await the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
